ACE! A win for Camp Sunshine

Updated: Mar 13, 2021

Are you part of the Pickleball game craze? That sport that combines elements of badminton, table tennis, and tennis? Why is it important to Camp Sunshine?

In the fall of 2020, two-time counselor Alex Bos hosted a pickleball tournament to benefit CampSunshine. We connected with Alex to ask about this experience:

How did you first get connected to Camp Sunshine?

I first got connected to Camp Sunshine through communication with a fellow counselor.

What inspired the pickleball tournament?

I had previously volunteered at Camp Sunshine, and this past summer I volunteered as a counselor virtually. Virtual camp, although it was set up very well given the circumstances, was not the same as in-person camp. I started to think about the camaraderie all the campers didn’t have this year and wondered what could be done to make next year even better. With social distancing still in place I thought a pickleball tournament may be a great way to raise some money and keep people active in a fun way. So with that I began to devise a pickleball tournament.

Why did you choose to support Camp Sunshine?

I chose Camp Sunshine because of the value and smile Camp Sunshine provides for campers.

How has Camp Sunshine had an impact on you?

CampSunshine has influenced how I see light in different situations. Going to camp everyone was so happy to be together and to participate in camp activities, that I began to realize just how much value a place and a group of people can have.

If you could say anything to the Camp Sunshine community, what would it be?

Keep spreading the light and the joy. It is such an honor to be a part of camp, and especially after this odd year I think it is very important to take a look at all the good that came from it.

Thank you Alex for your thoughtful and generous spirit. We appreciate all of the effort that was put in to make this come to life. If you're inspired and interested in creating a fundraising event like Alex, let us know!
