In Support of the CMH Millage

Camp Sunshine has operated camp experiences for individuals with mild to moderate cognitive disabilities since 1983. This long, deep history has led us to walk alongside the families of our campers as they navigate the systems intended to provide support to them. 

Families who care for their children with intellectual and developmental disabilities see many opportunities for connection and recreation disappear as their children age out of services provided through schools. For lots of families, Camp Sunshine is a lifeline for their loved one to receive benefits of attending camp, including the social engagement, sense of belonging, and unique recreational experiences. It’s a way for families also to experience a few days of respite for themselves. Families can be confident that their loved one is thriving at Camp Sunshine. Camp Sunshine is able to accept respite funds provided by government funding through Ottawa County’s Community Mental Health system. Ottawa County's Community Mental Health agency ensures that its most vulnerable citizens and their families do not face increased barriers to important services, like respite, which is why we support the renewal of this millage.

The renewal of this millage will also continue to provide services and opportunities for our community–funding for housing, recreation and education opportunities, as well as transportation services that are a lifeline to independence. 

The services funded by this millage are essential to the campers in our community, as well as their families and loved ones. We encourage Ottawa County voters to renew this millage on August 4, 2026.
