Welcome Camp Sunshine's New Executive Director

Updated: Jan 16

The Camp Sunshine Board of Directors is pleased to announce Kathy Rohlman as its Executive Director. An alumna of Muskegon Community College and Grand Valley State University, Kathy brings a wealth of experience and potential to Camp Sunshine as it seeks to expand its programming. Most recently the Talent Solutions Manager for West Michigan Works, she had previously held operational and development positions for nonprofits Bethany Christian Services, the Grand Rapids Symphony, and the West Michigan Symphony. She’s done significant volunteer work with the Coalition for Community Development in Muskegon Heights, and as a volunteer for Camp Sunshine since 2013.

Since 1983, Camp Sunshine has offered people with developmental disabilities aged 12 to 50 summer camp experiences in a safe, caring, and inclusive environment. The four-day overnight programs have featured activities designed to meet participants’ recreational, emotional, physical, spiritual, and relational needs. Uniquely, each camper is paired one-to-one with a volunteer counselor for their entire four days at camp.

Through the pandemic, the organization has been spurred to greater creativity in creating avenues and spaces for campers and volunteers to feel included, learn from others, and grow in friendship. The powerful culture of inclusion has been shared through virtual connections, online events, craft kit deliveries, and more, all to assure that our community is supported, included, and loved exactly as they are. In her new role, Kathy will lead the continued expansion of Camp Sunshine’s offerings and partnerships

The Camp Sunshine Board of Directors is excited to welcome Kathy to lead this expansion and development of Camp Sunshine’s mission:

To offer experiences that model and nurture a culture of inclusion, grace, and joy, through which people with and without disabilities can transcend barriers and value both their own gifts and the talents of others.
